News! Glorious News! (And It's Freakin' Massive!)

WHEW!

This last week has been quite the whirlwind week for me and yes, it totally has something to do with the title of this journal entry so let's cut to the chase and reveal the freakin' massive news of the glorious variety, shall we?

Freakin' Massive News of the Glorious Variety the First!

After an embarrassingly long delay, I've finally made myself a proper Facebook fan page! Please be a dear, check out the page and give it a good ol' like. That is if you want to, of course. ^_^

Freakin' Massive News of the Glorious Variety the Second! (And trust me, it's massive!)

A month or so ago, I went downtown to get my art looked at. I can officially say that said place downtown was My Sister's Closet. It's a fantastic second hand boutique fully owned and operated by the Battered Women's Support Services with all the profits going straight to said organization along with many other awesome local charity organizations. They also have the Women Artisans program that not only helps local female artists get exposure and financial independence but also goes towards BWSS themselves. It's a program that I'm beyond proud to be a part of.

Yup, you read that right. My artwork, comics, buttons, greeting cards, original sketch cards and bookmarks are officially being sold in a store.

I can't even begin to describe how psyched I am for this. :-D

SKETCHAVEMBER Day 9: Versus The World!

The wee hours of Sketchavember: Day 9 has led me to toy around a little with Bryan Lee O' Malley's art style.

Yup, I actually do own everything I am wearing in this drawing and since I used the word "I", this is indeed a cartoony self portrait.

SKETCHAVEMBER Day 3: Sultry

EDIT: Got rid of that annoying smudge.

Day 3 of Sketchavember brings me my second contribution.

It was originally going to be a costume design but it started getting much, much too big so I decided to shift my focus on something small and simple that would also give me a little practice in a few departments...

-Inks
-My Pentell brushpen (but I had to use a few other multiliner pens for certain areas but the brushpen was used for a good bulk of the image.
-Different perspectives of the head.

Kinda had sultry sex symbols like Bridget Bardot on the brain here. Just wanted to draw a good haughty little pout. ;-)

Was I on the mark or hopelessly off? Let me know. ;-)

SKETCHAVEMBER! Day 1/2: Porcie; Such a Doll

EDIT: I cleaned up the image a little more on Photoshop.

Holy crap! An honest-to-god update on this blog! Yup, I've gotten my drawing groove back and what better time to get it back than for SKETCHAVEMBER!

"What is Sketchavember?", you might be asking. Well, you know how thousands of people take on NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and attempt to write a full length novel throughout the month of November? Well, this is the drawing equivalent of it. The goal is to produce one piece of art per day be it a simple doodle on a napkin, a comic strip or even a full-on mural painting. It's totally up to you. For more information, you can read the official and original journal entry here or on the originator's DeviantART page here.

Now, as for the drawing itself "Porcie: Such a Doll" is an original character belonging to diesseapril over on DeviantART. This was done as a freebie sketch along with a few others which I shall post soon.

But back to the drawing. The dress was so fun to design. It became this Rococo meets glam vampire thing and with such beauty and glamour, I just had to add in a big ol' scythe to spruce things up. Ahhh, manic violence and dainty elegance. My favorite combination!

This also doubles as my first and second drawing for Sketchavember: I worked on this yesterday and discovered the challenge later that night and completed it today. Make sense?

Stay tuned for more Sketchavember goodness!

Concept Sketches: Bitches in Stitches

Well, look what we have here! Some concept sketches I promised I would post as a Blogspot exclusive!

These are all character designs and concept sketches for a very, VERY BIG upcoming drawing I'm planning to tackle. I've always wanted to take this one on but I had to wait for the skills to develop before completely diving in. Now I think I'm ready to bring this undead, all-girl rocker band to life! Sorry for that atrocious pun. I wasn't trying, I swear!

Without further ado, here are the concept sketches of the ladies in Bitches in Stitches!
Lillith Lynch, their bone-chilling bassist.
Dolly Drainblood, the guitar prodigy who will get to fulfill her potential post-mortem.

Claudia Cutthroat, the deadliest drummer around.

Finally, there's Anna Atrocious. The lead singer with a wail to make a banshee bashful.
More sketches and concept work for this drawing to come.

I Am Not Your Doll

You ever wondered what would happen if the dollies ever decided to rebel and rise up against their masters? I guess you could say I was in the mood to draw something excessively cute and girly that's simply had it with being sweet 24/7. I'm really happy with how her ringlets turned out. Gotta love those Ai Yazawa-esque lips.

Codename: Jezebel

For my first featured drawing on here, I've decided to post my most recent drawing "Codename: Jezebel". Just try not to get "Juke Joint Jezebel" stuck in your head. ;-P

Anyways, about a month ago my really good friend and I were having a late night brainstorm session over MSN about an ongoing project he was really feeling stuck on at the time. The project in question was to take all of us (friends of his) and create superhero/villain alter-egos. He wasn't sure which direction he would take them in stylistically (silver-age a'la the Minutemen in "Watchmen", 90's style a'la the "X-Men" cartoon, sleek and futuristic a'la "The Matrix" etc.) but he did tell me that I would be on the villainous side of things and that I would be something like the Poison Ivy of the group; the temptress with a devastatingly poisionous/toxic (take your pick) kiss.

Ideas were flowing so quickly that I just had to draw this. Needless to say, he loved it. To be specific it was "exactly it".

Man, latex/PVC/vinyl is a blast to draw...but I think I should have defined the knee a little better.
